  • Western Air Express Western Airlines Douglas M-2 Flight across US.
Restoration of a Douglas M-2 that had been sitting in storage at LAX began in 1974. The restoration was completed in 1976. It flew for the first time in 36 years on June 2, 1976. After test flights and recertification, in May 1977, it flew across country and is now in the Smithsonian Air and Flight Museum. Please see the Smithsonian web sight for more info on this incredible journey. I believe the photos that I am listing are of this journey. I also believe the these photos were produced from the original negatives. There are no marks or writing on the backs of the pictures except a red 6 on the back of one. All are 8×10. My dad worked for TCA, PNA, WESTERN, and retired from Delta. These are from his collection of airline memorabilia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a line. The Northern Air Cargo is not attached to any of the pictures. Some pictures are slightly warped, but will flatten out if framed or stored flat. Please see the pictures. Please see my other auctions. Yes, I will combine shipping.
    Thanks, Pete
