A reproduction of the 9 OR 10 inch South Bend lathe quill oiler / dauber, (customer verified it will also fit the old 11 inch series too)! This is that little dauber or quill oiler that almost every lathe is missing, (or lost if like me when I sucked it up in the vacuum and out in the trash it went). You can wait and try to find an original on Ebay, (selling upwards of $75 at times!), or just go ahead and get it right here to finish off your restoration or just because you can’t stand that little hole on the tailstock being empty. This will fit a tailstock with a 5/16″ quill oiler pocket, (some old lathes had a 1/4 inch dia. pocket, either enlarge pocket or turn dauber shoulder diameter down a bit to use our dauber).
These are used to place a drop of lubricant onto the tip of a dead center to provide the neccessary lubrication. The old timers used white lead, (not advisable for health reasons nowadays), which a small amount was kept right there in the dauber’s hole on the tailstock.
