1939 CINCINNATI REDS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS WORLD SERIES PIN BUTTON PENNANT
1.25″ no maker, with spring pin holding red ribbon glued to blank back of a vertical glossy cardboard pennant. The 1939-40 Cincinnati Reds were winners of the National League pennant in back-to-back seasons with records of 97-57 in 1939 and 100-53 in 1940 under National Baseball Hall of Fame manager Bill McKechnie. Both Cincinnati ball clubs were led by future Hall of Fame star catcher Ernie Lombardi, who was the National League MVP the previous season in 1938. Although the Reds lost the 1939 World Series to the mighty New York Yankees in four straight games, they came back to defeat the Detroit Tigers in seven games the following year to become 1940’s World Champions. The ribbon has about 50% across tear so a piece of archival tape has been placed on the back to stabilize. The pennant has two horizontal creases on lower half and perhaps is missing a tiny pointed end. The button is NM. These were also issued with names of specific players. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
